Are you, like many people nowadays, finding it difficult to lose
weight or maintain a healthy weight due to excessive hunger and
cravings?
If so, I have some exciting news to share!
First of all, as I mention in my book, As Thin As You Think, being
overweight is NOT your fault! I strongly believe that our ever
increasing toxic food environment is the culprit. The added
ingredients/chemicals in highly processed foods actually hijack our
brains to crave these products and to feel excessively hungry, making
weight loss very challenging. Sugar is just one of many unhealthy
ingredients being added to food products today.
To prove this point, here is an eye opening study done by a young UK
doctor recently:
In this study, he examined the effects of changing his normal 80%
healthy/20% highly processed diet to the opposite – 80% highly
processed and 20% healthy – for 30 days. His study was overseen by a
UK top obesity expert. He said the processed foods, such as sugar
cereal, fast foods and frozen meals, were not only tasty and quick,
but soon became highly desirable and difficult to stop eating. His
hunger soared. By week 2, his digestive track was painfully off
kilter, he suffered from heartburn, headaches, insomnia and felt
constantly hungover. By week 3, he wasn’t enjoying the food yet
couldn’t stop eating them.
Here are the medical results of his study: He gained over 14 pounds!
His Body Mass Index took him into the “overweight” range and the
hunger hormone, ghrelin, increased over 30% (which explained why his
appetite was out of control). The hormone that tells his body he’s
eaten and shuts off appetite, called leptin, decreased. Quite
alarming!
In addition, his before and after brain scans showed the shocking
results that the ultra processed food diet drastically increased the
reward centers of his brain to fire repetitively. He said this is a
brain scan actually seen in a person with addiction. Both he and the
obesity expert were surprised and terrified by these results.
He ended his video pondering what ultra processed foods are doing to
children’s malleable brains.
To learn more about the food ingredients to avoid, I highly recommend
the YouTube health influencer called Bobby Parrish. He’s entertaining
and very informative.
So, how to reduce your hunger and cravings? Eat less ultra processed
foods that have long and complicated ingredient lists. Your body will
thank you and you’ll shed pounds much more easily.
